Study Board of Economics and Business Administration

Aalborg University Business School

The study board is responsible for the organisation, completion and development of study programmes and teaching in the programmes affiliated to the board and consists of selected representatives of the teachers and students in the programmes.

A chairman is chosen among the study board’s teacher representatives, and a deputy chairman is chosen among the study board’s student representatives. Each of the programmes that fall under the study board is headed by a course coordinator who is responsible for the day-to-day running of the programme, e.g. conducting teachers’ meetings and similar.

The study board has an employer panel that meets twice a year to discuss relevant focus areas. The purpose of these meetings is to maintain ongoing dialogue, discussing and further developing the interplay between the content of the study programs and the development and demand of the business sector.

Information for students - Dispensations and Study abroad

Study Board of Economics and Business Administration is responsible for processing student applications regarding dispensations and pre-approval of credit transfer (pre-approval / forhåndsmerit) for programmes under the Study Board.

Applications for Dispensations

A dispensation is an exemption from the rules and regulations which regulate Aalborg University. You may apply for a dispensation if exceptional circumstances prevent you from complying with the ordinary study regulations. An exceptional circumstance is typically an external and unpredictable situation beyond your control, not commonly experienced by students, that prevents you from complying with a specific rule. Exceptional circumstances may include, for example, illness, parental leave, or other unusual personal situations.

Applications for dispensation are assessed individually by the Study Board. Your application should include a clear explanation of your situation and relevant documentation to support your request. Please note that dispensations are granted based on a specific assessment and are not automatically approved.

More information about dispensations, including what you can apply for and general guidelines, is available on Aalborg University’s website:

Applications for exemptions must be sent to the Study Board in this email: studienaevn-erhvervsoekonomi@business.aau.dk. You must expect a case working time up to 4 weeks.

Applications for Pre-Approval of Credit Transfer (Forhåndsmerit)

Pre-approval of credit transfer (forhåndsmerit) is relevant if you plan to complete courses outside your current study programme—such as courses at another university or during an exchange—and wish to have them approved in advance as part of your programme at Aalborg University.

By applying for pre-approval, you receive an academic assessment of whether the planned courses can later be recognised as final credit transfer, provided that you successfully complete them. The Study Board assesses whether the external courses are equivalent in level, scope, and academic content to the courses they replace. The Study Board offer to assess two additional courses in advance in case you are not admitted to one or more courses. This means that you can have courses equivalent to 30 ECTS + two extra courses assessed beforehand if you are taking a full semester at another university.

Applications for pre-approval must be submitted to the Study Board and must include relevant documentation, such as course descriptions and information about learning objectives, academic level and ECTS credits. You can find the template you need to use to apply for advance credit transfer here (English document - Danish document).
